About the talk:

Between the 1st and 3rd centuries CE, the oasis city of Palmyra, located in the Syrian steppe, played a key role in international trade. As part of the Roman Empire and closely connected to the Mediterranean world, Palmyra leveraged its strategic position to control caravan routes towards the Gulf and onward to the Indian Ocean.
