Delphine and Solange Garnier, dream of leaving their small town of Rochefort for exciting lives in Paris. Delphine is a dance teacher, and Solange is a composer; both are searching for ideal love. Their lives intertwine with a pair of traveling carnival workers, a dashing sailor, and a mysterious American composer. Full of colorful costumes, whimsical choreography, and romantic twists, the film is a joyful homage to Hollywood musicals, underscored by Michel Legrand’s memorable score.
